In my previous post, I wrote very briefly about the upcoming shifts in February. Let’s expand a bit in this post—because I know we’re all feeling big movements and I know there is a lot of uncertainty in the air.
The most significant event this month is the Saturn-Neptune conjunction at 0 Aries. A powerful new birth though what is being born may not yet be clear. Also, Neptune in Aries is a new chapter for all of us, one that will last the next 13 years, and similarly with Saturn in Aries which will last the next 2 to 2-and-a-half years.
Aries is the sign of the ram—of competition and daring. I often think of the world as a safe and collaborative place, a place of harmony and beauty. But that’s my Venusian goggles. My Mars goggles say: better watch out! Better keep up!
One ancient text, the Jaimini Sutras, describes Aries succinctly as “rats and cats”. The hunters and the hunted. The need to protect our sanctuaries (as cats are often companions to people because they protect against mice and rats and other unwanted animals). Of course with our Venusian or Neptunian lenses we know that mice or rats are noble creatures playing a vital role in the ecosystem. But if they’re in our house, they need to leave!
Danger and competition are not to be looked down upon. It’s through these that we find courage, adventure, excitement. Increased Aries energies are not an invitation to go burrow underground (though Saturn may want to). They’re an invitation to step up.
Fortunately we don’t have to do it alone. Neptune, a planet of soul-connection, will bring us together with our tribe in Aries. We will be devoted to camaraderie and teamwork, to bold steps forward.
Only, pick your tribe wisely. Also, be mindful of whether your tribe is actually working towards a sustainable future—an alternative to this system and these ways of life that are clearly not working.
The real danger at this time to me is not the enemy; it is becoming so engrossed in our fight against the enemy, that we do not really stand for anything in ourselves.
I do not like to speak about mainstream politics; I prefer real, future-oriented politics that you will probably have to talk to me offline about if you’d like to know more. That said, I am aware of some of the movements that are going on, and I am aware that there are many oppressors that need to be stopped. I would just ask: are you the person to stop them? Is that your purpose? Because many people today who are devoted to stopping are not working towards an alternative. They are taking the role of a martyr.
I am aware that most of these people aren’t working towards an alternative because no viable alternative is even in their sphere of experience, but again, talk to me offline if you’d like to know my views around this.
Saturn in Aries is going to be looking for security against the ever-present dangers and worries. Saturn is the planet of boundaries and borders. Saturn is willing to put its head down if that means safety. But in this time, security is not going to be easily found. It’s going to be a process. Just be mindful of impulsiveness and looking for shortcuts. Tap into faith and also look to Saturn for objective signs that things are moving in a productive direction. Saturn fortunately gives us a realism; it can bring the Neptunian inspirations down-to-earth. But Saturn can be impatient in Aries (the sign of its debilitation).
The Conjunction
This conjunction occurs only once every 36 or so years. So it is a major event. To put the importance or potential importance of an event like this (involving two slow-moving planets), the Saturn-Pluto conjunction, which is similarly rare, occurred right at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. And if you know about Saturn and Pluto, that’s very much fitting into their symbolism.
But this is not Pluto; this is Neptune. The positives of Neptune are connection, faith, imagination as a source of joy and inspiration. The negatives are delusion, fantasy, and escapism.
Yes this means war. But this also means, to me, the birth of new tribes and peoples and ways of life. The wars will mostly be between the old and dying systems, ideologies, controllers. This conjunction as with all the astrology today is working with Pluto in Aquarius which is revitalizing society as a whole. Many governments today say they are “democracies” but they don’t know what democracy really means.
It doesn’t mean voting for a top-down ruler that we don’t know and who is almost certainly corrupt. It means true empowerment, true self-governance. It means true distribution, down to the local level. We do not need a top down government. We only need villages and cooperation amongst them. It was this way in the past; it will be this way in the future.
Not that we are returning exactly, but to some extent, we are. We are taking all that we have learned, all that we are from this era of globalization, and bringing this to a local and self-empowered level. Aries represents independence and self-sufficiency, and when Uranus moves into Gemini I think this impulse towards the local, towards neighborly cooperation will increase even more.
So what exactly does this conjunction entail or what events does it portend? We can’t know that for sure.
But what I believe is that, if we’re doing what we are supposed to be doing—what is aligned with our highest Neptunian self and involves patient Saturnian work to make it real—then over time, we’ll be positively surprised.
But again, what is most important is to align with those teammates who most support us and to ignore, as much as possible, what is happening at the highest levels (government, etc.). If ignoring it is not possible because it is directly and tangibly affecting us, then what actions can we take to change our circumstances? It is likely, with Aries energy, that you need to save yourself rather than demanding others to do it. Helplessness won’t get us far.
And it’s important to listen to this because the dangers are real. The wars are or will be real, and while we need to rely on faith no matter what, it helps to really understand or have a sense of what will actually help. I hope that in these coming months, what we need, individually and collectively, will become more clear. And I wish you well wherever you are at.
We live in a special time, with so much change and also so much opportunity. I hope that we can embrace these currents of change and not let ourselves get stuck. If we’re stuck, we have only ourselves to blame.
